For Parents
We’re aware that navigating the competition pathway can seem challenging at times, so we wanted to make sure you are aware of the LTA resources that exist for the parents and carers of competitive tennis players.
There’s a great section of the LTA website designed to support you to ‘get your child competing’, including the interactive guide “Ready, Play” – An introductory guide to competition for parents.
The guide covers:
- The benefits of playing tennis and the life skills your child can develop through competing
- Things to consider before your child starts competing
- What to expect at tennis competitions and how to positively support your child
- What happens after your child has played a competition
When your child starts competing more regularly you may wish to complete the LTA Competition Parenting Course. This one-hour interactive course has been designed to equip parents and carers with the skills they need to positively support their child at competitions, and the topics covered include:
- Parents’ roles during tennis competitions
- Communicating effectively with children before, during and after a match
- Managing the emotional demands of competition
You can also access more information about the Parent Support Programme on the LTA website, including online guides, video resources and interactive workshops you can attend.
Finally, you may also like to join the ‘Tennis Parents Community’ Facebook group – a peer to peer support group for the parents and carers of Tennis players in Great Britain.
