9U Friendly at White Horse Leisure Centre
February 13, 2023
We competed against Buckinghamshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire in a friendly at White Horse Leisure Centre in a 9U Friendly.
Boys
Starting with a round of doubles, we played Gloucestershire first and won both doubles in two competitive matches. Then heading into singles with Alessandro, Lakshith and Eliot picking up strong wins. Oskar was tested hard by Gloucestershire #2 to a tie break and despite fighting all the way, fell 6-8. This gave Middlesex a 5/1 win.
Next up was singles against Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
Against Buckinghamshire Oskar was pushed to a tie break again but had a strong performance to take the match 7-3. Against Oxfordshire, Lakshith couldn't hold off Samuel Goh who took a 4-2 win. Middlesex had a strong showing in other matches winning comfortably. Meaning Middlesex were 4-0 v Buckinghamshire and 3-1 v Oxfordshire heading into the doubles.
Due to some long singles matches the doubles was reduced to Match Tie breaks. Lakshith and Alessandro took the number 2 doubles 10-5 and 10-8 to seal wins for Middlesex.
Team: Carlos Ferra (Captain), Alessandro, Eliot, Oskar & Lakhshith
Girls
The girls were competing in the afternoon in the same format and dominated the matches, only dropping 1 singles all afternoon from an athletic Buckinghamshire number 1. The doubles was more competitive with the girls enjoying playing with a partner.
We managed to fit in an extra round of doubles to give players the opportunity to play with someone different.
Team: Liana Vafiadou (Captain), Chloe, Deniz, Dinuki & Sophie
We organise friendlies to give players the opportunity to compete as a team, give county cup captains the opportunity to see players in action and feedback on performances.
