County Closed Review 2019
April 26, 2020
A big Thank You to Brenda Stewart, our referee and hosts Hazelwood Sports Club and Vicars Moor LTC.
We had a great atmosphere throughout the week and great success with our off-court activities including Padel Tennis and serve competition). We had 478 entries from 294 players across 32 events.
It was also the first year of our partnership with Surrey Tennis, where we ran a full Disability Event schedule. Click here for the report.
Notable Highlights
8U Girls Singles Sasha Zlotnik bt Kimika Fukui
Sasha and Kimika had a very competitive final, with their very long rallies, and shot making. Sasha piped it 15-13 after 15 minutes of match play.
9U Girls Singles Giselle Jolie Fiorentino bt Vivienne Thomas
Our 9U Event was an open draw this year with majority of players either an Orange 1 or Orange 1*. In our qualifying all of the matches were close, with Vivienne Thomas, Amani Osman and Hannah Sylvester making it into the main draw. Again highlighting the depth in this age group - 16 out of the 30 matches played in the main draw were 3-setters.
Giselle had a great day and powered through her matches to take the title.
9U Boys Doubles Raphael Hebant and Angad Saggu bt Sergey Gordin and Keiju Yuto
9U Girls Doubles Giselle Jolie Fiorentino and Sofia Negus bt Milica Milojevic and Ana Senic
Our 9U Doubles events were running for the second year in a row, and great to see so many players choosing to stay on and compete in the doubles. It also served as an introduction to players to get used to Fast4 scoring for those who are moving onto 10U events in September. Congratulations to the winners.
10U Boys Singles Leo Wright bt Sam Zlotnik
Leo and Sam gave us a competitive match on finals day. Leo took the first set 5-4 (5) for Sam to then fight back and take the second set 4-1. Leo regrouped and took the match tie break 11-9.
12U Girls Singles Amelie Brooks took the title for the third year in a row. The first player to do so since Pro player, Anne Keothavong.
Amelie qualified for the Babolat Cup alongside Archie Campion held at Edgbaston Priory Club.
14U Girls Singles and 16U Girls Singles Tia-bonita Jakupovic-Kljako
Tia had a great week beating some strong, older opponents in both the 14U and 16U events. Tia also teamed up with Sophia Fredericks-Mckee to win the 14U Girls Doubles.
18U Girls Singles Ruby Hart
Ruby pulled through some tough matches in both the 18U Singles and Runner Up in Ladies Open Singles.
18U Boys Singles, Open Men's Singles and Open Men's Doubles William Mclennaghan
William had an amazing run through in both the 18U Boys singles and Open Men's to take both titles. He also partnered Maxwell Douglas, 2018 18U Boys winner to take all three titles.
14U Mixed Doubles in our final event and match of the year, Archie Campion and Amelie Brooks bt Leo Silverston and Tia-bonita Jakupovic-Kljako in a match tie break.
