Down Syndrome Tennis Open enjoys successful launch …
The UK’s No 1 Down Syndrome Tennis Open this weekend at Thistleworth LTC Osterley was a sure-fire success. In the heat of a glorious Sunday afternoon the players bedazzled the supporters, with their enthusiastic character and ability. The Cup winner was Ashley Stewart of Surbiton the Plate runner up went to Olly Bermejo.
Special Guests included Sally Phillips –Patron of the DSA and world famous actor – the Trophies and medals were presented by Tim Phillips – Former Chairman of the All England Tennis Club and player at Wimbledon – “it doesn’t get much better than this” , said one of the parents – “we will definitely broadcast the next event and shout about how professional and dedicated the coaches were, making the players feel like champions” …
Organiser Dan Balfe announced that he would look to run other events as well as implementing a weekly coaching slot for inclusive Tennis –This might be group coaching or 1:1 – ultimately my eye is on the UKs bid for the Special Olympics in 2031 to be involved in some way would be a career goal … if you want to start your tennis journey - please email DanBalfe@gmail.com
